ReWire has 17 staff members and associates located across the U.S. and South Africa, each serving in different ways. Sometimes that diversity can create confusion about who ReWire is and what we do, so this month’s update is an attempt to bring greater clarity to our mission and ministry. ReWire’s calling is to resource the church toward deeper intimacy with Christ and greater impact in the world. Our primary strategy for doing this is by establishing "Kingdom Outposts"—small communities that incorporate the rhythms of both the inward and outward journey within the context of authentic community. By the inward journey, we mean a commitment to spiritual growth through classical spiritual practices such as lectio divina, silence, and journaling. The inward journey is soul work toward spiritual freedom, healing, and awareness in the intimate presence of God. The outward journey is expressed through the ways God calls us to engage with the broken places of the world. Many of our staff have established these communities, bringing together a wide variety of people, including those who have experienced church hurt or disillusionment, church and ministry leaders, people seeking deeper discipleship, and others who long for a more authentic journey of faith. Our core convictions are described on our website, but central to our work is the belief that both the church and we ourselves are called to connect with the poor—those who are under-resourced, vulnerable, or oppressed. We see this as an essential aspect of spiritual formation because of Christ’s example of continually drawing near to the poor and calling His followers to do the same. As a result, many of our staff invest significant time in ministries such as prison outreach, programs for people who are unhoused, supporting refugees and immigrants, and serving those who are unemployed.
